Epson home projectors use a three chip LCD design, which means all three colors are produced at the same moment rather than in sequence. The practical result is that color brightness and white brightness are the same number, so the picture keeps its color in a room that has ambient light in it instead of going pale and washed out. That is what makes Epson the sensible answer for a media room, a bonus room, a game room or a covered patio, where a fully darkened theater was never on the table. Current models use laser light sources with no lamp to replace, and the higher models add motorized lens shift and zoom, which gives us real freedom about where the projector can be mounted in a room that was never designed around a projector in the first place.
